Edward "Skip" Dailey
Edward "Skip" Dailey's love of golf may come second only to his love for family and friends. Skip not only plays golf, but was working at a local course when he started having pain he attributed to indigestion. Skip's girlfriend, a nurse, realized he also had jaw pain and suspected a heart attack.
Skip was brought to Grandview Medical Center's Emergency Department, which is an accredited Chest Pain Center. He was evaluated quickly and taken to the cardiac catheterization lab, where stents were placed to keep his arteries open.
"From the moment he entered triage, the care he received was exceptional," said Ashley Roberston,Skip's daughter, who was with him at the time.
After further evaluation, it was determined Skip would need open heart surgery. Several weeks later, he underwent a triple bypass, performed by cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. John Richardson.
Dailey says the surgeon and staff reassured him and provided explanations that eased his mind.
"Dr. Richardson's bedside manner, compassion and expertise are just superior," said Dailey. "Along with his five-star qualities and the equally matched care of the staff in CICU, my hospitalization was flawless. Each and every nurse involved in my care was exceptional."
"This surgeon was on the unit rounding and speaking with his patients and available to staff several times daily, which was so refreshing and reassuring," explained Robertson. "The staff on this cardiac unit goes above and beyond truly making the patients feel like they matter. Exceptional care equaled exceptional outcomes for this patient."
Skip healed, recovered and rehabilitated with the CICU nurses. Then 116 days post-surgery, he won the two-day Senior Club Championship Tournament at his local golf course. Congratulations to Skip!
