Grandview Medical Center Hosts Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
10/2/2015
Grandview Medical Center, the new 372-bed hospital in Birmingham, celebrated its upcoming grand opening today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Grandview’s president and CEO, Keith Granger, and the Grandview leadership team welcomed local, state and industry officials to the event, including Birmingham Mayor William Bell, Alabama Lt. Governor Kay Ivey, Wayne Smith, Chairman and CEO of Community Health Systems. The medical center will officially open next weekend.
“Birmingham is proud and fortunate today to welcome the Grandview team and this beautiful campus to the 280 corridor of our city,” said Mayor Bell. “As the city grows and changes, access to quality healthcare will be a critical component of our social and economic success. Grandview is well-positioned here in our highest growth area to contribute to that success.”
At the ceremonial cutting, Mr. Smith and Mr. Granger spoke of the journey leading up to this memorable day.
“Today represents the culmination of a decade of the hard work and perseverance of many people who were determined to bring high quality, convenient and technologically-advanced healthcare to this part of Birmingham,” said Mr. Granger. From the advanced technology in the cardiac cath labs and the Hybrid OR, to the digital information boards in the patient rooms throughout the building, the nearly 1 million-square foot facility is one of the most technologically advanced hospitals in the country.
"While every detail of this building has been carefully considered to enhance patient care and experience, the foundation on which Grandview is truly built is its skilled and dedicated team of physicians, nurses and other caregivers," said Wayne Smith, chairman and chief executive officer of Community Health Systems. "We are also very pleased that our investment in Grandview has had a profound, positive economic impact on Birmingham and the surrounding areas and we look forward to continuing in our commitment to this community.”
The Medical Center consists of 12 floors and 372 beds, along with a Level III Trauma Center, helicopter-landing pad, certified Chest Pain Center, a Hybrid OR and 30 operating rooms. Visitors to the campus will be greeted by a digital way finding system to help them find their way around the campus. The adjacent medical office building consists of 220,000 square feet, and houses Grandview’s Sleep Lab, Wound Care Center and Cardiac Rehab unit, in addition to various physician office spaces. There are more than 600 primary and specialty care physicians on Grandview’s active medical staff.
“We are honored that Grandview Health Community Health Systems have chosen Alabama for this project, and that this property’s history has been brought to such an impressive conclusion,” said Lt. Governor Ivey. “We are proud of our outstanding healthcare community, and this investment in our state an the local community will have a great impact for years to come.”
