Grandview Medical Center Welcomes First Baby
10/11/2015
Shortly after midnight, and less than 24 hours after the official opening of the new Grandview Medical Center, the Labor & Delivery team welcomed the first baby to be born in the new hospital. Baby Meghan was born at 12:34 am weighing 6 lbs and 7oz, to proud parents Tracy and Joseph. Dr. Margaret Miklic delivered the first baby at Grandview but not the first baby for the family. She joins five brothers and one sister.
Mom Tracy, who works in Women’s Services at Grandview, was assigned to and working with the move team at Trinity on Saturday. “We had packed up the final items at Trinity and were working in our new department at Grandview. I had started having contractions a few weeks ago. But they became more frequent so they put me on a monitor,” explained Tracy. “My original due date wasn’t until early November.”
The new Grandview facility officially opened for patient care at 6:00 am on Saturday morning. The hospital has eight private and spacious labor & delivery rooms and 22 private post-partum rooms, with a spectacular view of Birmingham overlooking the 280 corridor. There are also 12 private NICU rooms called Pods, designed for privacy and optimal nursing care for the hospital’s most fragile patients and their families.
