BIRMINGHAM, AL (August 28, 2017) — CHS has promoted Grandview Medical Center CEO Keith Granger to the position of CHSPSC, LLC Regional President and Market CEO for Alabama. In this role, Granger will provide management guidance to CHS’s six affiliated client hospitals in Alabama. He will continue to serve as CEO of Grandview Medical Center until a successor is named.
“Under Keith’s direction, the Grandview leadership team has done an excellent job of establishing the hospital as a top provider of quality healthcare for Birmingham. He is a strong leader who will provide management guidance working with the experienced and established CEOs at the Alabama hospitals,” said Tim L. Hingtgen, President and Chief Operating Officer of Community Health Systems.
“For the last eight years, it has been a privilege for me to serve as the CEO of Grandview Medical Center. Obviously, the relocation of the hospital was a major accomplishment for our team,” said Granger. “But for me personally, the rewards have been in watching this team come together and make strides in initiatives that positively impact patient care. The support and collaborative efforts of physicians, employees, board members and volunteers have resulted in our growth and accomplishments.”
Granger came to Birmingham and Trinity Medical Center in 2009 having served as CEO of Flowers Hospital in Dothan since 1992. In 2015, Trinity Medical Center was relocated to Highway 280 and renamed Grandview Medical Center.
During his tenure at Flowers Hospital, Granger led his team to becoming the number one ranked hospital in the nation in using evidence based quality practices as measured by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Granger also led Trinity to achieve top quality scores. In early 2014, the Commonwealth Fund’s website whynotthebest.org listed Trinity as the number one ranked hospital in the country for Overall Recommended Care becoming Granger’s second hospital to achieve a number one ranking.
An industry leader, Granger has previously served as Chairman of the Alabama Hospital Association’s Board of Trustees and received its highest honor for hospital leadership. He has chaired the Association’s Quality Task force since its inception in 2004. He is also a former member of the Board and Executive Committee of AQAF, Alabama’s Medicare contracted Quality Improvement Organization. Granger also played a key role in the development and passage of Alabama’s Infection Reporting Law and remains actively engaged in bringing increased transparency to this statewide initiative.
Currently, Granger serves on the Board of Governor’s for the Federation of American Hospitals and is Alabama’s delegate for the American Hospital Association’s Regional Policy Board. He also serves on the Board of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.
Granger has received numerous awards and accolades. He was the first recipient of AQAF’s Robert G. Sherrill Award for Quality Improvement. In 2016, the Birmingham Business Journal named him as the CEO of the year in the extra-large company category.
