Low-intervention birthing suites provide new benefits
Cindy and her husband Jorge are the parents of Abner, the first baby to be born in the new low-intervention birthing suite at The Family Birth Place at Northwest Medical Center-Bentonville. Abner was born on March 18, weighing in at 7 pounds, 11 ounces. Abner joined three siblings who welcomed him home.
Cindy had already been contemplating delivering this baby without having an epidural and came to the Bentonville hospital as she went into labor when her OB/GYN Dr. Amy Fry was on call there. Together, they chose the low-intervention birthing suite with a goal of helping Cindy achieve the birthing experience she desired.
“The room was very nice and I was kept comfortable. I was pleased with the different options for pain management I had, some of which I didn’t know existed.” While she wasn’t able to use the laboring tub, as she was too close to delivery when she arrived, she did use nitrous oxide (NO) for pain management. Cindy’s husband Jorge thought the wireless contraction monitor and fetal heart monitor were very helpful and interesting.
NMC-Bentonville was the first hospital in the state to offer nitrous oxide as a pain management option for women in labor and the first to open a hospital-based low-intervention suite.
