(JOHNSON, AR) –Dec. 15, 2017— Willow Creek Women’s Hospital is pleased to now offer robot-assisted surgical services, which opens the door for a wider range of laparoscopic procedures for patients.
Surgeons trained in this surgical instrumentation are now able to provide a number of minimally invasive surgical procedures vs. a traditional laparoscopic surgical approach leading to quicker recoveries, shorter hospital stays and less scarring.
“Generally, patients experience a shorter recuperation period with less intense pain and many can return to their normal routine in a shorter period of time,” said Dr. James Tanner, Chief Medical Officer of Northwest Health. “Our ultimate goal is to provide exceptional, compassionate care to our patients, using advanced technology for the best patient outcomes.”
The robot allows a surgeon greater visualization, enhanced dexterity, precision, control and superior ergonomics. Unlike conventional surgery, with the robotic system, the surgeon’s hands never enter the patient. After the initial incisions are made, robotic arms wielding a tiny camera and surgical tools make the snips, stanch the blood flow, and suture the incisions when all is done. Additionally, the robotic computer’s ability to filter out routine hand tremors and scale down movements when tinier cuts are needed which means greater precision.
While not all patients are good candidates for robotic surgery, those that are good candidates are given the option of utilizing this advanced technology vs. a more traditional surgical approach.
Examples of gynecological surgical procedures that have benefitted from robotic surgery include, but are not limited to: tubal ligation, hysterectomy, ovarian cystectomy, sacrocolpopexy, myomectomy and diagnostic laparoscopy.
