Springs Memorial Hospital Participating in Several Cardiovascular Disease Awareness Initiatives for Month of February
GO RED on February 2
Lancaster, SC (January 29, 2018) -- February 2 is National Go Red For Women Day and Springs Memorial Hospital is asking everyone in the Lancaster community and surrounding areas to wear the color red on this day. Go Red For Women is the American Heart Association’s national movement to raise awareness of the risk factors of cardiovascular disease in women -- because it’s not just a man’s disease.
More women than men die every year from heart disease and stroke. The good news is that 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented with education and lifestyle changes. Go Red For Women advocates for more research and swifter action for women’s heart health. The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power women have to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease and stroke. It challenges them to know their risk for heart disease and take action to reduce their personal risk. It also gives them the tools they need to lead a heart-healthy life.
Little Hats, Big HeartsTM
Thanks to a couple of individuals affiliated with Springs Memorial Hospital, The Women’s Services Department of Springs Memorial Hospital is joining the American Heart Association, in connection with The Children's Heart Foundation, to celebrate American Heart Month by sending new born babies home in red crocheted or knitted hats. Hospital volunteer, Iris Scheuttig and Laboratory Employee, Kayla Adams, MLT, have donated their time and resources to make these little hats for this heart initiative. Beginning February 1, babies born at Springs Memorial Hospital will be discharged home in one of the hand-made hats (as long as supplies last).
Little Hats, Big HeartsTM, honors babies, moms, and heart healthy lives in a very special way. In conjunction with The American Heart Association, we are working to raise awareness, provide resources and inspire moms to take their family’s heart health to heart while also raising awareness about Congenital Heart Defects.
