Lancaster City Fire Department Presents Award to SMH
1/3/2019
Lancaster, SC (January 3, 2019 ) - The Lancaster Fire Department awarded Springs Memorial Hospital their annual Aunt Jo Williams Memorial Community Service Award at the end of December. The award is named after Jo Williams, who was referred to as ‘Aunt Jo’ around the Fire Department.
“Aunt Jo was very involved in the Lancaster community,” said Fire Chief Justin McLellan. “She always looked after us at the Fire Department and on Wednesday evenings she would bring a supper plate from her church for all of the guys on duty. She would stop by from time to time to drop off fresh baked cookies and she really meant a lot to us.”
The award is given to a person(s) or a business who has been supportive of the Fire Department throughout the year.
“We at the City of Lancaster Fire Department feel like we have a very strong relationship with Springs Memorial Hospital”, said McLellan. “SMH is heavily involved in the community, and is very supportive of all of the emergency services agencies in Lancaster County. On several different occasions SMH has allowed our department to use their facilities for different training classes, which provide opportunities that our department would not have been able to get at other buildings within the city. Springs Memorial Hospital exemplifies what we look for in a recipient of the Aunt Jo Williams Memorial Community Service Award.”
“It is a wonderful honor for the staff, volunteers, physicians and the Board of Springs Memorial Hospital to be recognized for community service by the Lancaster Fire Department,” said hospital CEO, Page Vaughan. “We are aware that Aunt Jo Williams was dedicated each day to the Fire Department personnel and interested in their wellbeing. We have the same mission to make sure our patients receive the best care possible at the hospital and our clinics and that we reach out to our community to support initiatives to improve the health and safety of the residents of Lancaster County. We are proud to have the opportunity to serve our citizens and look forward to a bright future.”
