Springs Memorial Hospital Upgrading Radiology Services With A New $1.8M MRI
11/29/2017
Lancaster, SC (November 16, 2017) – Springs Memorial Hospital is currently in the middle of a $1.8M capital investment improvement with a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine in the inpatient radiology department.
The hospital’s MRI magnet is being replaced. MRIs are used to help visualize the brain, central nervous system and spine, soft tissues and joints, blood vessels and organs of the chest, abdomen and pelvis. MRIs can detect tumors, cysts, disease of the arterial and venous systems, soft tissue tears and many other anomalies.
The new MRI will feature wide bore technology, which provides a comfortable scanning environment for patients with claustrophobia.
During the installation and construction phase of the replacement, a mobile unit will be used for MRIs. The mobile unit will be located under an awning next to the radiology department. The mobile unit will have the same software platform of the unit that is being replaced, which means a consistent quality of imaging during the renovation. The project is expected to be completed in late March or early April.
“We have a plan in place to minimize the inconvenience to both patients and staff during the upgrade,” said hospital CEO, Page Vaughan. “Upon completion of this project, we will be able to offer an even better image quality that will be an enhancement to the healthcare provided at Springs Memorial Hospital.”
