At Grandview Medical Center, we’re here to make the most memorable nine months of your life go smoothly and to help your pregnancy be a healthy one.
Learning Together
Each month, the prenatal education team will meet with expecting parents to go over the ins and outs of childbirth. Classes cover a variety of topics, including:
- What to expect during labor and delivery
- Pain management options
- Breastfeeding 101 with our certified lactation consultants
- Caring for your newborn

Breastfeeding: A Great Start
This class is designed to help prepare moms and their partners for breastfeeding their newborn baby. Breastfeeding is a natural process that is not only nutritionally sound, but also a beautiful and intimate way of getting to know your newborn. It is also designed to answer questions you may have about breastfeeding, and to help you and your newborn learn to successfully breastfeed.
Educational topics include: benefits of breastfeeding, skin-to-skin contact, breast anatomy and physiology, proper positioning and latch-on, mother and infant nutrition, common concerns/complications and storage of breast milk.
Length of class: Offered monthly on Saturdays, this is a 2-hour class from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., and held at Grandview Medical Center.

Gift of Motherhood
The gift of motherhood is a childbirth education class designed to help prepare expectant mothers and their partners for parenthood. The purpose of this class is to help you understand the process of labor and to answer questions you may have about your upcoming birth. The more knowledge you have on the process of birth, the more likely you will approach your personal journey with confidence and a positive perspective.
Educational Topics include: choosing care for yourself and your baby, thinking ahead to childbirth, discomforts of pregnancy, understanding labor and birth, medical interventions and cesarean birth, adjustment to parenting, breastfeeding your newborn and caring for your newborn. At the end of class, you will be offered a hospital tour.
Length of class: Offered monthly on Saturdays, this is a 6-hour class held from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Grandview Medical Center.

Daddy Boot Camp
This crash course for dads-to-be will help prepare men for the adventure of fatherhood. In a fun and relaxed environment, dads will learn how they can be a hero for mom and baby as they embark on this new journey together.
Educational topics include: how to support mom before, during and after delivery; breastfeeding support; newborn care; newborn safety; how to cope with changes once baby comes home; postpartum depression; and time for open questions and answers.
Length of class: This class is offered on scheduled Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. – Noon, at Grandview Medical Center.

Infant Safety
This class is designed to teach the basics in first aid for CPR and choking for infants. This course is great for parents, grandparents, babysitters and those who will be caring for your newborn.
Length of class: This is a 1 hour class on scheduled Saturdays from 9 a.m. - 10 a.m. or noon to 1 p.m. at Grandview Medical Center.

Comfort Measures in Childbirth
This class is designed to help prepare mothers and their support person(s) for the management of discomfort during childbirth. Pregnant women commonly worry about the pain they will experience during labor. This class will help you understand what you may experience during each stage of labor, and how you and your support person(s) can reduce your discomfort.
Educational topics include: factors that contribute to what you may feel and experience in labor, the role of the support person(s), words of affirmation, relaxation, breathing techniques, environmental comfort measures, as well as positioning and stages of labor.
Length of class: This is a 3 hour course taught from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on scheduled Thursdays.

Grand Beginnings Tour
Understanding your hospital’s layout and policies will help you prepare for a positive birth experience. Tours are designed to provide expectant mothers and their partners with information about our hospital services.
Length: Hospital tours typically take 30-45 minutes. Two tour option times are available: 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. on the below dates.
