Grandview Cancer Center houses a linear accelerator. The system is fully integrated for image-guided radiotherapy and radiosurgery. Using this linear accelerator allows for treating cancer anywhere in the body where radiation treatment is indicated, including lung, breast, colorectal, head, neck and brain cancers. Motion management technology, integrated 3D imaging and high dose rates are a few tools utilized for radiation therapy. From fast, precise imaging to accurate radiation dose delivery, this particular technology helps the physician navigate the complexities of cancer care.
Grandview Cancer Center has also installed a large-bore PET/CT scanner. This technology is an expansion of the system utilized in PET/ CT and radiation therapy planning. The high resolution PET/CT scan, with advanced motion management, enables visualization of small structures and a faster scan time for the patients. The large bore size accommodates immobilization devices and larger patients without compromising image quality.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is the use of drugs to treat cancerous cells by interfering with the cell’s ability to grow or reproduce. It is one of the most common treatments for cancer. Different drugs work in different ways to impact cell growth. Chemotherapy may be used as a stand-alone treatment or in combination with other treatments, such as radiation or surgery, to treat the disease. Patients can receive chemotherapy on an inpatient and outpatient basis at Grandview Medical Center.
Radiation Therapy
Commonly used to treat cancerous or other abnormal growths, radiation therapy exposes diseased cells to radiation to destroy them. In some cases, tumors are treated with radiation alone. Radiation therapy can precede or follow surgery or be used in conjunction with chemotherapy to rid the body of remaining tumor cells. Regardless of the type, radiation therapy at Grandview Medical Center is performed by an experienced staff of radiation oncologists, radiation therapists, dosimetrists and nurses dedicated to making treatment as successful as possible.
