Family Birth Place at Bentonville
Expect More When You’re Expecting
When you’re expecting, you should expect more, and that’s what you get at The Family Birth Place at Northwest Medical Center – Bentonville. As part of Northwest Health, where more people choose to have their family’s birth experience, we work hard to exceed expectations, not just to meet needs.
In fact, as the hospital that pioneered low-intervention birthing suites and new pain relief options like nitrous oxide, we were honored to be first in Arkansas to provide these birth plan options. That’s not just because we like to be first, but because it’s all about you. It’s because we want to do all we can to help you achieve the birth plan you’ve envisioned.
It’s about your choices. That’s why, while experienced OB-GYNs direct your care, certified nurse midwives have privileges on the medical staff and doulas can play a role as well: it’s about you and your birth plans.
It’s also about what’s very best for your baby. We were among the first hospitals in Arkansas to earn the international Baby-Friendly designation. This certification is from the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund. The initiative encourages and recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer the highest level of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.
Additionally, there aren’t many hospitals even now that offer the gentle C-section procedure we offer to make sure mother and baby bond from the very beginning. It ties into our outstanding processes for ensuring we’re a Baby-Friendly Hospital.
Of course, your outstanding birth experience starts before you come to the hospital to welcome your new baby. Expecting moms (and dads) can meet with an OB nurse whose job as an OB nurse navigator lets her cater to your needs. You get tours and one-on-one education, plus the chance to review your birthing plan and evaluate options ahead of time.
Finally, we offer classes at no cost, whereas many hospitals charge for this education. Your OB nurse navigator can review classes with you and sign you up, or you can do so simply by going online. Our patients have said we provide the best hospital delivery experience in Northwest Arkansas and, of course, the staff agrees!

Professional Staff
The Family Birth Place is proud to work in collaboration with a professional medical staff of obstetricians/gynecologists, neonatologists, neonatal advanced practice nurses, certified nurse midwives, pediatricians, therapists and experienced registered nurses. Because time is of the essence when babies decide to arrive, it is important that mothers know their physician is close. Physicians practicing at the Family Birth Place at Northwest Medical Center – Bentonville have their offices no more than five minutes from the hospital, so they can be quickly available. Every labor and delivery nurse is certified in fetal monitoring by the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN). These specialized staff members also receive on-going training on fetal monitoring and neonatal resuscitation.
Breast-Feeding Support
As a baby-friendly hospital, we support breastfeeding mothers. Nurses and lactation consultants assist you with skin-to-skin contact immediately after the delivery of your healthy newborn and guide you through the Golden Hour after birth to assist with the first feeding and answer any questions you may have during this time of bonding.
Safe High-Quality Care
Our goal is to provide safe, quality health care that recognizes and focuses on both the physical and psychological needs of the new mother, the newborn and the family.
