Psychiatric Emergency Services
About the Program
Northwest Medical Center – Springdale’s psychiatric emergency service (PES) is a short-stay (less than 23 hours) urgent/emergent operation that offers 24/7 access to care for adult individuals on a voluntary and involuntary basis. The PES goal is to reduce inpatient hospitalization, increase access to mental health services, reduce the amount of time that law enforcement and EMS are involved in mental health crisis and strengthen the individual’s rapid access to appropriate behavioral health services.
How to Access
Individuals in crisis can access PES on their own (via walk-in) or by referral. Individuals can also be brought to the PES by law enforcement, EMS and first responders. Behavioral health service providers and hospital emergency departments are also encouraged to make referrals and can transfer patients directly to our PES from their facilities. Walk-ins are welcome.
Who We Serve
We accept adults ages 18 and older who are experiencing a behavioral health crisis. This includes individuals who may pose a risk or danger to themselves or others and/or appear to be gravely disabled and unable to safely care for themselves due to a mental health disturbance.
What We Do
PES provides psychiatric evaluation and stabilization to individuals on a voluntary and involuntary basis in a safe and secure setting. Crisis intervention and urgent medication assessments and interventions are provided by a qualified multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals.
Why PES
Psychiatric emergencies are acute disturbances in thought, behavior, mood or social relationships that require immediate intervention as defined by the individual, family or social unit to protect the individual and/or others from imminent danger. Individuals in crisis require immediate intervention and stabilization in a safe and secure setting to help reduce the risk of harm to themselves and others.
