Urology
Urology services at Northwest Health focus on the urinary tract and system, including the bladder and kidneys, and the male reproductive organs. The urologists treat a range of conditions, from routine complaints to prostate cancer, including minimally invasive brachytherapy treatment. If surgery is necessary, surgeons offer progressive surgical techniques, including robotic surgery for prostate cancer and minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures.
We diagnose and treat a variety of conditions, including:
- Benign prostatic hyperplasia
- Impotence
- Male infertility
- Prostate cancer
- Testicular cancer
- Urinary tract infection (UTI)
- Incontinence
- Urodynamics
- Kidney stones
- Voiding dysfunction
Heat-free, Waterjet Therapy for BPH Available
Northwest Health is offering a heat-free waterjet therapy for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as prostate gland enlargement. This minimally-invasive surgical treatment combines the power of water and robotic technology to provide BPH relief, and surgeons are able to customize this therapy to a person’s specific and unique anatomy.
Performed in a hospital setting while the patient is under anesthesia, the treatment usually takes less than an hour. However, it does involve an overnight stay.
During the resective procedure, the prostate tissue that causes symptoms of BPH is surgically removed. No incisions are made as the prostate is reached through the urethra. This therapy is the only kind that uses ultrasound imaging with the standard camera, a cytoscope, allowing surgeons to see the entire prostate in real time so they may map what should be removed and also note what to avoid.
Once surgeons have created the surgical map, a robotically-controlled, heat-free waterjet removes the prostate tissue outlined in the map. This robotic technology minimizes human error in removing prostate tissue and ensures tissue is removed precisely, consistently and predictably. When required, surgeons may choose to use a minimal amount of cautery following therapy.
If you would like to learn more about BPH and its treatment, speak with your urologist for more information or to see if this therapy is right for you.
Laser Therapy for BPH Available
Northwest Medical Center – Springdale offers laser therapy for treatment of BPH. An enlarged prostate gland can block the flow of urine out of the bladder and can also cause kidney, bladder or urinary track problems.
With laser therapy, prostatic tissue blocking the outlet of the bladder is evaporated. To learn more, speak with your urologist or primary care physician.
